Fly the comfortable skies

We had the opportunity to finally try out FlowCushion on a flight to New York. However brief the flight is from the beach to the big city, the self-inflating, alternating pressure cushion kept us comfortable throughout the trip. We have to admit, too, we caught the eyes of more than a few passengers and flight attendants wondering exactly what it was that kept the smiles on our faces and blood flowing through our lower backs and legs.

As you can see here, one of the attendants asked to try it for herself, and we almost didn't get the cushion back! It works that well. So if you have a FlowCushion, you'll know to be careful when lending it out.

Better yet, buy a second one just in case.

A cup of tea and a comfortable seat

The Arlington, VA / Washington, DC area provided a capital setting for the Malice Domestic conference, an annual celebration of the mystery. For the uninformed, the term cozy refers to mystery stories featuring amateur sleuths. The conference tips its hat to the grand dame of the cozy, Agatha Christie, for its name, and each year brings over 150 authors together with readers for a weekend of suspense, laughs, and lots of books.

The slogan for Malice Domestic is "not everyone's cup of tea," but I'm willing to bet the FlowCushion might be. I can tell you it was a great help on the drive up I-95, then up I-395 where the last ten miles of the trip slowed to the crawl. Typical for the DC beltway area, at least it is every time I go. While I pounded the wheel in frustration my backside was comfortable sitting on the alternating air pressure bladders. I didn't have that numb feeling in my legs like I usually do on such a long drive.

Using the FlowCushion enhanced my relaxation at the conference, so that I didn't feel so exhausted when I got to the hotel. I could go straight to registration and check out a few seminars before I presented on my panel about writing short mystery stories. I only wished I thought to take it with me during the book signing, where I could have enjoyed at least an hour more of comfort as I signed copies of my novel, Pithed. Who knows, maybe I'll write my next mystery while sitting on FlowCushion...or feature the cushion in the book. Is it worth dying for? I don't know, but I'll bet Miss Marple might have enjoyed her tea better with it.

No More Malicious Feelings

I have to admit, despite my excitement over attending the annual Malice Domestic conference in Washington, DC, I wasn't looking forward to the drive. True, there are the rising gas prices to contend with, but the nation's capital is fair drive from the beach, about 3-4 hours. I intend to snag the DriveCushion for the long drive so that I may arrive at the conference in a good mood, ready to solve any mystery that comes my way.

What is definitely no mystery is that the alternating air pressure flow within the seat cushion provides lasting comfort for these drives. As I expect to do much sitting during the conference, listening to panels of published authors discuss the craft of writing, and finding an agent, I want to come in fresh.

If you happen to be in the area, too, why not stop by the conference on Sunday afternoon? I'll be on the panel discussing short stories and novels - which length is favorable to writing and reading, and afterward signing copies of Pithed, my own novel.

The first long trip

FlowCushion proved its mettle once again, this time on the longest trip we've taken to date. Driving to West Virginia from the beach, while a lovely ride scenic-wise, isn't the best for a bad back. Having the FlowCushion through much of the trek through the mountains on I-64 and the swerving West Virginia turnpike made the trip much easier on our muscles. Oftentimes when we arrive we are sore, tired, and just ready to hit the sack. This alternating pressure point cushion eased much of the fatigue and kept us alert for the drive.

Of course, it was nearly two in the morning when we got to our destination, so we had no choice but hit the sack, energized though we were. But, one must consider the residual effects such a cushion can have. We drove better, therefore we slept better that night, leading us to a better, healthier morning. What a difference the absence of driving discomfort makes!

Praise for MediCushion - seating for paraplegics and quardiplegics

We've had people ask us if the FlowCushion is suitable for people suffering paralysis. While it's important for anybody forced to deal with prolonged inactivity to keep blood circulation flowing, FlowCushion is not something we recommend to people under these conditions. For one, while the FlowCushion would work to stimulate blood flow in the lower back and legs, a person paralyzed from the waist down won't feel the action. Therefore, when the battery runs low, the patient will not know when to recharge.

For this purpose, we offer a sister product, the MediCushion. MediCushion works under a process of alternating air flow pressure, yet is specially tailored to people suffering paralysis. MediCushion comes equipped with an alarm battery pack that will let you know when it's time to recharge.

Like Flow Cushion, the Medi Cushion is portable, easy to clean and carry and reasonably priced for this type of accessory. For more information on our sister product, please visit the MediCushion site today!

Joe wouldn't trade Flow Cushion for anything

Once again, I'm grateful for having the FlowCushion on another long excursion. This time, we headed up to Newport News and Trader Joe's, a terrific gourmet grocery store off Jefferson Avenue. Because of the distance, we only go once a month to stock up on their delicious baked goods and other organic products. Despite how wonderful the food is, I never much cared for the drive, but having my alternating pressure cushion to take down I-64 and the tunnel improved the commute. I didn't have that tired, achy feeling I normally get after sitting in a car for nearly an hour.

In fact, I enjoyed the trip down so much I stayed a while and checked out the improvements made to Patrick Henry Mall. Browsed the new Borders and even stopped by the PhysEdge kiosk (PhysEdge is part of the Ciniva Health family, too!).

Welcome to the Machine

Many, many years ago, we were fortunate to have seen The Machine live in a small club in Jacksonville, Florida. If you haven't heard of The Machine, chances are you're not much into Pink Floyd, either. The Machine is perhaps one of the best tribute bands around, and arguably the best Pink Floyd tribute band. We tried the concert years ago thinking we'd never have a chance to see the real thing (eventually we did, when Pink Floyd came to Tampa later that year), but if you have a chance to see either group live, do it!

Unfortunately, we won't be able to make it to see The Machine tonight at The NorVA. It's disappointing, too, because I yet to see a show at this wonderful venue in downtown Norfolk. Of course, you're probably wondering what all of this has to do with FlowCushion...and eventually I will my point.

If you have been to The NorVA, you no doubt noticed the lack of seating space. The NorVA is not a venue like an auditorium or concert hall. From what I've seen on the website and concert footage, there is very limited seating during shows. Patrons are naturally content to enjoy shows standing room only, and despite the good times and great music that can wreak havoc on the back and legs.

To have a FlowCushion for the drive home would be a blessing. The ease of sitting on an alternating pressure cushion can massage away the ache of prolonged standing, and make the late night drive more comfortable. You'll feel more alert driving home, and wonder why the entire venue can't be padded with the same thing!

Can a seat cushion benefit people with arthritis?

We were asked this the other day, and it's a question I've pondered since. Especially since reading the latest about arthritis care for the elderly, I've thought of how to present a concise answer.

Surely, Flow Cushion doesn't cure arthritis, and as a seat cushion it may not necessarily help people suffering pain in the hands and certain upper joints. Now, the patented air pressure flow can benefit people with lower bodyaches -- arthritis isn't limited to the hands, I know this from relatives who live with various types of arthritis. The longer you sit, whether at work or home, can compound the problem. Sitting on Flow Cushion, however, can relieve the strees put upon your coccyx and keep the blood flowing in your lower back and legs. The more the blood flows, the better the chance for pain relief.

Now is the time to get Flow Cushion and find out for yourself how simple it is to sit healthy. Our introductory price of $195 is practically a steal!

Interstates and two-lanes are always Flow friendly...

Whether plugging along I-64 to Richmond or winding down US-58 toward Emporia, the patented FlowCushion works with the same comfort level and quality one expects from such a great seat cushion. Despite the gas prices, having FlowCushion is enough to inspire anybody to drive more, and look forward to making day trips.

Thinking about the coming Easter holiday has inspired me to look outside the beach for other events in the Hampton Roads area. Suffolk, for one, is hosting its annual Easter Eggstravaganza on April 8 at Bennett’s Creek Park. From 9:00 a.m. – Noon the kids can enjoy a day with the Easter Bunny and compete in a parkwide egg hunt. We'd have plenty of time to swing back through Portsmouth to the see the new outdoor sculptures on display at the Courthouse Galleries and historic High Street.

flow cushion

FlowCushion Deluxe works like no other air cushion. Using a state-of-the-art microprocessor-controlled pump and valve system, air pressure is alternated within a series of small bladders in order to help promote relief on the various pressure points on your leg and coccyx muscles. These bladders inflate and deflate in a steady, quiet rhythm to lift and shift the body as it sits. With the remote, you control how fast and how long you want the cushion to work.

As you sit on Flow Cushion, blood circulation may be continually enhanced. You may feel less tired and sore after several hours of sitting, and therefore more energetic. You may feel, too, that your posture improves, thereby reducing the opportunity for discomfort.

FlowCushion Deluxe comes with an AC adapter and a special cigarette lighter adapter for travel. It's perfect for use at the office, home, or in the car, and makes a great gift for the frequent traveler in your life:

  • Transportation workers - bus and cab drivers
  • Truck Drivers - always on the road
  • Chauffeurs - great for prolonged driving and waiting
  • Busy moms - for shuttling kids to school and meetings
  • Long road trips - stop less frequently for stretch breaks
